Generation Health Clinic - A Healthy Living Program for Families (Previously "Shapedown BC")

Provided by Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA)

A family-centred healthy living clinic that offers medical, nutrition, and mental health assessment and support for children and teens aged 6-17 who meet the eligibility criteria.
What
Parents and children/teens meet with a physician, dietitian and mental health professional for a comprehensive assessment appointment. Based on this assessment, a personalized care plan is developed that identifies specific healthy living goals for the family, taking into consideration readiness and capacity of a child/teen and family to engage in healthy living changes.

Families receive healthy living support from an allied health team (dietitian and/or mental health professional) for up to two years through a combination of family individual appointments and parent/caregiver group-based education sessions. Families also have the opportunity to attend a family physical activity group program delivered by an exercise specialist.

While enrolled with Generation Health Clinic, patients will have medical updates every 6 months, focused on obesity-related medical complications identified in their intake care plan. Update reports will be sent to referring providers at these intervals. Between these medical updates, patients continue all medical care with their primary care provider.

Approach
Generation Health Clinic is not a dieting or weight loss program. We focus on improving the physical, metabolic, and emotional health of the child or teen, and reducing their risk of chronic disease.
